(OurNationNews.com) Despite not being chosen as former president Donald Trump’s running mate, Republican North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum has doubled down on his support for the former commander-in-chief, promising the attendees at the Republican National Convention that among other things, Americans can expect that the U.S. will attain energy independence should Trump take the Oval Office a second time.
North Dakota governor told the cheering crowd that Trump would stop buying energy from America’s enemies but rather produce its own and even sell it to the country’s allies.
According to Burgum, energy independence would be the “big stick” America will carry as a sign of its strength, which will also “make it prosperous for all Americans.”
In contrast, Burgum said that Biden’s energy initiatives only served to fuel inflation, increasing prices at the pump and other basic commodities. He also described the supposed “green” policies pushed by the Biden administration as something Iran or China wrote to take away power and revenue from the U.S. He also compared serving under the Biden administration and the Trump administration, calling the experience of the former like having a “gale force wind in our face”, while the latter was “like having a beautiful breeze on our back.”
A former businessman who hit it large when he sold his tech company to Microsoft for $1.1 billion, Burgum has been the state head of Flickertail State since 2016. He briefly mounted a campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, but conceded in December last year. Prior to hitching his wagon on the Trump train, Burgum was known more as a moderate, but in recent years has been rebranding himself to be more in-line with the MAGA (Make America Great Again) crowd. In the aftermath of Biden and Trump’s first debate, the North Dakota governor remarked that Biden’s dismal performance showed dictators and U.S. adversaries like the Ayatollah of Iran, China President Xi Jin Ping and Russian head of state Vladimir Putin that America does not have a “capable” president.
