(OurNationNews.com) A number of stalwart supporters of former president Donald Trump have called into question the former chief executive’s recent endorsements of Republican candidates.
In the lead up to the upcoming Republican National Convention in July, where Trump is expected to announce his vice presidential pick, the former president has also ramped up on his endorsements for various positions throughout the country. However, his choices have raised some eyebrows, even those belonging to some of his most ardent supporters.
Republican Florida Representative Matt Gaetz is one of those people, who in a post on Twitter/X, condemned Trump’s choice of John McGuire for one of Virginia’s congressional seats. Gaetz accused McGuire of being a “McCarthy plant” and urged his followers to vote instead for the incumbent representative for the Old Dominion’s 5th congressional district, Republican Bob Good.
Both Good and Gaetz made an appearance during Trump’s hush money trial in Manhattan in an attempt at showing support for the former president, but Good had earlier endorsed Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis during the Republican presidential primary.
True to form, Trump has not forgotten Good’s earlier endorsement of DeSantis, and said that the Good’s more recent “warm endorsement” of the prospective Republican presidential nominee comes “too late” in the game.
“He turned his back on our incredible movement,” Trump said of the Virginia congressman in a post on Truth Social. The former commander-in-chief also said that only until recently, Good was “constantly attacking and fighting me.”
“The damage had been done!” Trump exclaimed in the post.
Other Republicans have expressed concern that many of the Republican candidates Trump is endorsing are more moderate conservatives, rather than the members of the far-right who have typically been long-term supporters of the former president.
Republican Ohio Representative Warren Davidson said that Trump’s decisions may very well keep “funding the status quo” as moderates are usually more amenable to striking compromises with their liberal colleagues from across the aisle.
Gaetz, on the other hand, has attributed the former president’s choices to the “liars” in Trump’s camp.
