(OurNationNews.com) Former president Donald Trump has settled on Republican Ohio Senator J.D. Vance to be his running mate just as he formally received the official appointment from the Republican National Convention to be the GOP’s presidential candidate for the national elections in November.
The decision came after months of speculation from people outside Trump’s campaign and inner circle, with Trump revealing in a post on Truth Social that after considering the merits of others in his shortlist – names that included personalities such as Republican Florida Senator Marco Rubio, former housing chief Dr. Ben Carson, and Republican South Carolina Senator Tim Scott – he believed that Vance was the most qualified to become his vice-presidential partner.
Vance was also endorsed for the vice-presidential post by prominent and influential names in the GOP such as former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, as well as Donald Trump Jr. Both said that they believed that among the candidates being considered, Vance, a former Trump critic within the Republican party, would be the most loyal and the most supportive of platforms championed by the former president, especially in issues such as the economy and immigration.
According to sources within the GOP and the Trump campaign, Vance was the ideal choice, as his blue-collar roots in the Rust Belt in Ohio would make him a relatable candidate for working-class Americans. On top of that, his wife, Usha Chilukuri, the daughter of immigrants from India and a practicing Hindu, would help cultivate the image of a more inclusive Republican party as she would appeal to minority voters.
Vance, a former venture capitalist, managed to secure his senate seat in 2022 following an endorsement for Trump that gave him the edge in a highly-contested Republican primary in Ohio. Prior to that, Vance reportedly courted Trump in multiple meetings at the latter’s Mar-A-Lago resort in Florida, despite having been one of former president’s staunchest critics in 2016.
