(OurNationNews.com) -The campaign of former president Donald Trump has lambasted the latest executive order on immigration by President Joe Biden as a “mass amnesty” initiative that would see more illegal immigrants allowed into the U.S.
A press release from the Trump campaign accused Biden of allowing “countless criminal migrants” into the U.S. who have “brutally raped and murdered” American citizens. The Trump campaign also added that the new initiative’s exemption of minors from the rules essentially gives “green light to child traffickers and sex traffickers.”
Biden recently approved an immigration order that suspends the U.S.’ asylum program temporarily. However, the program still allows a daily quota of crossings in lawful ports of entry, and asylum seekers will ostensibly be screened more closely to determine if there really is any danger of them returning to their home countries.
The rules, which are effective immediately, have caused confusion at the border, as details on how the executive order will be implemented have not been released to the public as of press time. Immigration lawyers working with would-be immigrants at the border have cautioned that the new rules will cause chaos and “put people’s lives in danger.”
In his remarks on the passage of the executive order, Biden placed the blame on Republican lawmakers, who have rejected all bipartisan efforts to pass immigration legislation. Republicans in both the Upper and Lower houses have repeatedly clashed with Democrats and the Biden administration on immigration – with the GOP demanding much more stringent immigration rules at the border.
Critics of Biden’s new immigration rules, however, have called them reminiscent of Trump-era immigration policies, as the president has resorted to using section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, the same law Trump used to back his extreme anti-immigration policies during his stint in the White House.
For his part, Trump has gone on to promise a more extreme approach to immigration at the border, saying that he would enact policies that would see illegal immigrants become subject to mass deportations and detention camps.
