Trump Calls On Supreme Court to Interfere After Guilty Verdict

(OurNationNews.com) – Donald Trump has asked the Supreme Court to consider his case after he was found guilty on 34 felony charges in the state of New York.

Trump has called the charges and trials against him politically motivated and he received a record fundraising haul following the unprecedented verdict. While each charge carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison, the time could be served concurrently. It is also likely that he doesn’t receive any jail time because the felony charges are considered the lowest level of felony in the state. If so, he could face fines and probation.

Trump acknowledged that jail time is a possibility in this case. He said he would be OK serving jail time or home confinement, but he doesn’t think the people of the country would be stand for it. Trump slammed the court for setting the sentencing date just four days before the Republican National Convention in which he is expected to be named the nominee for the 2024 general election in November.

The Supreme Court has a case related to the events of January 6, 2021 that the court will rule on at the close of its current term. It is possible that the ruling in that case could nullify the conviction as a result of Trump’s claim that he has presidential immunity for decisions he made while acting as the country’s commander in chief. Calls have been made for Justice Alito to recuse himself from cases involving Trump after it was reported that he had an upside down American flag hanging in front of his house following the events on January 6.

The upside down American flag is a sign of distress, but it is also linked to supporters of the “stop the steal” movement that believe the election was stolen from Donald Trump in 2020. As a result, many politicians have called for Justice Alito to recuse himself from cases regarding the events of January 6.
