(OurNationNews.com) A GoFundMe campaign endorsed by former president Donald Trump for the victims of the failed assassination attempt against him has managed to garner millions of dollars in support.
The fundraising campaign quickly gained traction after former presidential son Donald Trump Jr. posted a link to it on Twitter / X, along with the confirmation that the campaign was fully endorsed and supported by his father.
The campaign, which was launched by Tallahassee native Meredith ORourke, carries the description that the entirety of the donations gathered in the campaign “will be directed to these proud Americans as they grieve and recover.” The campaign had an initial target of $1 million, but as of press time, total donations have reached more than $5 million. A number of prominent personalities have also donated to the cause, including Tesla, SpaceX, and Twitter / X CEO Elon Musk, who sent $50,000. Biotech billionaire Vivek Ramaswamy, who was among Trump’s rivals for the Republican presidential nomination during the primary, sent $30,000.
The campaign seeks to benefit the family of Corey Comperatore, the lone fatality from the shooting, along with other victims David Dutch and James Copenhaver, who were critically injured in failed attempt on Trump’s life.
Comperatore was a 50-year-old volunteer fire chief and former fire fighter. He lost his life as he shielded his family from the bullets fired by the gunman from his AR-15-style assault weapon. The Sarver, Pennsylvania native, who was a long-time supporter of Trump, was survived by his wife, Helen, and daughters Allyson and Kaylee. A separate GoFundMe campaign was also launched for his family, which has received more than $1 million in donations so far.
The 57-year-old Dutch was among the two people injured in the shooting, and was rushed to the hospital, along with the 74-year-old Copenhaver. Both sustained critical injuries as a result of the attack. Their conditions have stabilized, according to their families, but they are not completely out the woods yet.
