A horrific mass shooting unfolded in Birmingham, Alabama’s Five Points South district late Saturday night, leaving four people dead and 17 others injured. The incident, which occurred outside the Hush lounge, has shocked the community and left law enforcement scrambling to find the perpetrators.

According to Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond, the shooting appears to have been a premeditated attack carried out by multiple assailants. Authorities believe the shooters fired indiscriminately into a crowd, harming numerous innocent bystanders. The use of automatic weapons is suspected, as evidenced by the recovery of approximately 100 shell casings at the scene.

Victims and Aftermath

Three victims, identified as Anitra Holloman (21), Tahj Booker (27), and Carlos McCain (27), died at the scene. A fourth victim, whose identity has not been released, succumbed to injuries at a local hospital. The University of Alabama at Birmingham Hospital received 12 of the wounded, with injuries ranging from non-life-threatening to critical.

“Four people are dead and 17 others were shot when multiple shooters fired on people outside in the open Saturday night, according to Birmingham police.

“It looks like crime and murder has a strong hold on our society,” said Senior Pastor Steve Green with More Than Conquerors Faith Church.

“That’s 21 peoples whose lives were forever changed. That’s 21 families who some were destroyed and some were forever altered.” “We, all of us, as a community owe it to them to do everything we can to take these shooters, killers off the streets,” Green stated.

Investigation Underway

Law enforcement agencies, including local police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the FBI, have launched a comprehensive investigation. They are urging the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the apprehension of the suspects. A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for tips that aid in the investigation.

“The priority is to find these shooters and get them off our streets,” Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin stated emphatically.

Authorities are particularly interested in obtaining surveillance footage from businesses in the area. They are also investigating whether the shooters approached their targets on foot or from a vehicle.

Mayor Woodfin expressed his frustration with the epidemic of gun violence, stating, “will do everything we possibly can to make sure we uncover, identify and hunt down whoever is responsible for preying on our people this morning.”
