Speaker Johnson Plans Resignation Call For Secret Service Director

(OurNationNews.com) In the aftermath of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump, House Speaker Mike Johnson has called for the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle. He said it is clear to anybody that there were significant security failures that caused the 20-year old shooter to fire a bullet that struck Trump’s ear during his Butler, Pennsylvania rally on July 13.

Cheatle has said that she does not intend to resign following the criticism her agency has received for failures that led to the shooting of Trump during an election year. Johnson said he would be setting up a task force so that there are less burdensome regulatory hurdles to overcome for subpoena power. Johnson said he spoke with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas hours after the shooting and he wasn’t able to provide sufficient answers at the time.

One of the major questions regarding the shooting is how somebody was able to climb onto the rooftop within sight of the former president without being stopped by the Secret Service. The local and state police said the building wasn’t their responsibility to secure. The Secret Service stated it fell outside of the region they secured to protect Donald Trump for the duration of the rally.

During a follow-up interview, Cheatle said they were aware of the security concerns regarding the nearby rooftop. She said there was a sloped roof, which was a safety concern for the Secret Service agents. Johnson denounced the excuse provided by the director and said the explanation doesn’t make sense. He said there needs to be accountability and the answers from Cheatle are not honest or forthcoming.

A retired FBI director, Peter Yachmetz, pointed out the fact that shooter Thomas Crooks was able to move around the slanted rooftop for minutes preceding the assassination attempt. Yachmetz said it was clear that Crooks had no issue with the slant of the roof, which makes the public wonder why the Secret Service would have a problem navigating a slanted roof.
