(OurNationNews.com) Florida Republican Senator Marco Rubio sharply criticized President Joe Biden during an appearance on CNN this past weekend for taking legal aim at his political opponents.
Rubio appeared on the network’s Sunday Show “State of the Union” with host Dana Bash. Bash co-moderated the recent presidential debate with colleague Jake Tapper. The June 27 debate was a disaster the incumbent president, who was clearly mentally compromised. Biden was frequently incoherent and inaudible, and many of his statements made no sense. The camera caught him staring slack-faced and open-mouthed at Donald Trump during Trump’s speaking turns.
During his CNN appearance, Rubio and Bash discussed the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that established that presidents have absolute immunity from prosecution for any official acts they take. But non-official acts by presidents are not immune. The high court left it up to lower courts to sort out which acts are official and which are not.
Rubio claimed the U.S. has a president who “targets political opponents.” Under the Biden administration, the U.S. Department of Justice has tried to prosecute Trump for allegedly encouraging what the left calls an “insurrection.” Most level-headed commentators recognize the incident at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, as a riot, but not an attempt to violently overthrow the government.
By contrast, Rubio said, he could not think of any prominent Democrats that Trum “chased around, persecuted, prosecuted.” The left constantly warns about the dangers Trump poses to his political enemies, Rubio remarked, when the Democrats are merely describing what they themselves are doing right now.
CNN’s Bash, herself a liberal, challenged Rubio. In familiar language from the left, Bash claimed there was “no evidence” that Biden has Republican foes in his sights, even though the DOJ has two active cases against Trump.
Rubio responded by saying that many Americans are convinced that the courts have become blatantly weaponized by the Democrats against their Republican enemies. He reminded the audience that Donald Trump did not legally target the Obamas, the Bidens, or any other political figures during his four years in office.
