Red State Risks Legal Showdown with Biden DOJ Over Key Bill

(OurNationNews.com) -A Louisiana bill is expected to be signed by Governor Jeff Landry that will permit local police departments to arrest illegal immigrants.

The new law penalizes immigrants with up to a year in prison and a fine up to $4,000 if they cross the border after being deported. The law is similar to the laws passed by Texas and Oklahoma, which will likely receive a legal challenge from the Biden administration.

The bill also allows the governor to work with Texas to reduce the influx of illegal immigrants. Senate Bill 388 was written by Sen. Valarie Hodges, who is a founder and member of the Louisiana Freedom Caucus. She expressed the importance of passing this bill to protect Louisiana since the federal government is not doing anything to stop the increased number of illegal immigrants entering the country.

Hodges said the main driver of the bill is to protect national security interests. She also referred to several cases of illegal immigrants going onto military bases. Hodges said that the border needs to be closed as soon as possible for the protection of national security.

The Biden administration has already sued Texas, Oklahoma, and Iowa for similar laws regarding illegal immigration. Brian Boynton, a deputy assistant AG, released a statement regarding the lawsuit against Oklahoma. Boynton said the lawsuit is important to establish that it is the duty of the United States Congress to regulate immigration as granted by the constitution.

Governor Landry has spoken out about the illegal immigration crisis at the border and is expected to sign the bill. In January, Landry signed an executive order to collect data tracking the extra money that is being spent as a result of illegal immigration.

Biden is considering making some moves on the border, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Meanwhile, the battle between the Biden administration and Texas is likely to reach the Supreme Court, which would impact the other pending cases against Oklahoma and Iowa.
