Putin Ally Issues U.S Direct Threat

(OurNationNews.com) The latest round of sanctions against Russia have incensed the country’s top brass, with the country’s former president warning the U.S. and the European Union that there will be “hell to pay” for the latest economic prohibitions.

Dmitry Medvedev, Russia’s former president and close ally of the country’s incumbent chief executive Vladimir Putin, ranted against the sanctions in a post on Telegram, calling them “another act of hostility” against Russia. Medvedev, who has often made inflammatory and hostile threats against the West, pointed at the U.S. as the supposed mastermind behind the sanctions.

The sanctions, which were approved by the E.U., is the 14th such package imposed against the former communist superpower, and are specifically targeted towards its gas export industry. Russia, along with its president Vladimir Putin and other top officials and allies, have been the subject of several sanctions since 2014, when Russia annexed Crimea, and more have been added on to those following Russia’s efforts to invade Ukraine.

The new sanctions have targeted Russia’s gas industry for the first time, particularly the country’s liquefied natural gas (LNG). The sanctions prohibit the “reloading services of Russia LNG” in any territory under the E.U. The sanctions also effectively ban the passage of transports with LNG from Russia through any E.U. port, as well as the purchase of LNG from Russia “through EU terminals not connected to the natural gas system.” On top of all of that, a number of E.U.-member countries that already have contracts with Russia LNG, such as Finland and Sweden, are allowed to cancel their agreements.

An additional 69 individuals and 47 entities are included in the new round of sanctions. According to the E.U., the individuals and entities have been found to be complicit in efforts to threaten and undermine the “territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine.”

Also in response to the sanctions, Finnish gas supplier Gasum said that it would cease importing LNG from Russia beginning July 26.
