(OurNationNews.com) A majority of black respondents in a new poll say that abortion and birth control are promoted by the government to minimize the population of black people in America. 58% of the respondents responded affirmatively to the question regarding reproductive health. According to the Guttmacher Institute, 28% of abortions in the United States are provided for black women. Black people make up only 12.1% of the population in the U.S.
Hispanic Americans received 25% of the abortions in the U.S., but make up 18.7% of the U.S. population. Meanwhile, white Americans receive 39% of abortions while making up 57.8% of the overall population. Pew research polling data shows that 73% of black Americans support legal abortions in most or all cases. 60% of white respondents and 59% of Hispanics believe abortion should be legal under most or all circumstances.
The NAACP issued a statement in 2023 denouncing the Florida ban on abortions after six weeks. The organization said the new law “undermines” black mothers and their families. Following the overturning of Roe v Wade, the organization stated that abortions are a key part of civil rights for women, especially black women. The statement also included a statistic that 39% of African American women would die from pregnancy related deaths as a result of Roe v Wade being overturned.
The same poll about reproductive rights asked black respondents whether the government encourages single motherhood to reduce or eliminate the need of black fathers. 62% of the respondents believed the premise of the question. The increase of welfare programs and food stamps is cited as a government program that helps to increase the number of single parent homes.
Government welfare spending increased from $154 billion to $862 billion between 1977 to 2021. The number of single parent households increased from just over eight million in 1970 to nearly 21 million at the peak in 2010. The 2023 number of single parent households decreased to 18 million in 2023.
