(OurNationNews.com) Vice President Kamala Harris had an awkward first speech following the announcement that President Joe Biden would be relinquishing the position as the Democratic party nominee for president in 2024. During her address, she stopped mid-sentence to tell the audience that they may clap. At the campaign event in Wilmington, Delaware, President Biden made initial comments via teleconference.
Biden said he would be at the event if he didn’t have COVID and said he wouldn’t be available for the next three to four days. He told the audience to embrace Kamala who would be speaking shortly. After making a statement, Biden said he would stay on the line to listen to the other speeches. Vice President Harris’ husband and the second gentleman Doug Emhoff was introduced. Emhoff gave remarks about what the Biden family has meant to him personally as well as his wife before introducing Harris to the stage.
Harris said she was happy to hear the president’s voice. She followed up by saying that everybody loves him and the Biden family. The president chimed in to say that the feeling is mutual. Harris went on to say it has been an honor to serve as the vice president in the Biden administration. She said her and the team will focus their energy on campaigning and winning the election over the next few months.
Harris said she will go out and earn the nomination for president and thanked President Biden for his endorsement. Shortly after that speech, Harris released a statement stating that she received enough verbal support from delegates to secure the nomination.
After Biden’s announcement on July 21, Harris received endorsements from the president as well as former President Clinton. She is reportedly vetting potential running mates to fill the vice presidential slot on the presumptive Harris ticket in November. Some of the names that are being considered include Democratic governors Josh Shapiro, Roy Cooper, Gretchen Whitmer, and Tim Walz.
