American conservative values prize due process, equal justice, and limited state power. Secret trials and torture-tainted confessions violate all three.

Diplomats may prefer whispers to outrage, but time favors the rope, not the prisoner. Pressure that aligns with common sense can still work. Demand publication of case files in security prosecutions within fixed deadlines. Tie talks and trade to independent prison access for lawyers and families. Insist on audio and video records for all interrogations and toss any confession without them. These are neutral rules, not Western imports. They defend truth. If Tehran has the evidence, it should show it.
