Idaho Issues Executive Order Banning Non-Citizens From Voting

(OurNationNews.com) Idaho Governor Brad Little issued an executive order that will take immediate and much-needed steps to bar non-citizens from voting and make elections more transparent.

The governor noted that the need for the executive order stemmed from the rapid increase in illegal immigration at the US southern border that has increased the number of non-citizens coming into the country. He suggested that this move would make the already-secured Idaho elections even more transparent.

Under the executive order, the Idaho secretary of state will work with county clerks to refine the voter lists and remove any noncitizens who somehow manage to sneak onto the rolls.

The secretary’s office will enforce different measures to keep voter integrity intact, including reviewing voter lists with the help of the police and transportation departments to filter out noncitizens.

Furthermore, the secretary will also collaborate with the Homeland Security Department to submit annual reports to the governor and the state legislature which will review these efforts. Idaho state agencies will no longer be able to distribute voter registration material to non-citizens and will cease to collaborate with federal agencies that provide such material to non-Americans.

Secretary of State Phil McGrane also appreciated the order and claimed that the state was already equipped with exceptional mechanisms to stop non-citizens from voting, and this order would further increase the elections’ integrity.

Little issued the executive order in the backdrop of the tense voter integrity debate at the national level, which has also urged US House Republicans to pass the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act to bar noncitizens from voting in the federal races.

Congressional Democrats and President Joe Biden have expressed their frustration at the effort as they claimed that the current laws already stop non-citizens from voting and that this bill will only target marginalized groups.

President Biden is already waiting to veto the bill if it manages to reach his table after passing through the Democratic-controlled Senate, which is also a big roadblock in itself.
