(OurNationNews.com) California Governor Gavin Newsom said “right-wing media” coverage of California’s crime rate is false because the violent crime rate is half of what it was in the 1990s. He also said the values of California directly contradict and oppose the “poisonous populism” coming from the Republican party. Newsom said the conservative approach has increased the amount of fear and anxiety that people are feeling.
The governor went on to say the world looks at California as a role model of what is possible. There has been a significant number of Californians moving out of the state in recent years with 817,000 exiting the state in 2022.
During his speech, Newsom touted California’s leadership on abortion rights, electric vehicles and AI technology. He said California is home of the fourth industrial revolution. Newsom also slammed critics of California’s policies by saying they whine and complain, but don’t offer any solutions. He said California has done more than any other state to take on the issue of homelessness.
The governor said homelessness is caused by a range of complex factors, but the solutions are rather simple. He said California has focused on ways to build more housing quickly to address homelessness in the state. In early April, an audit report was released regarding the taxpayer funds that have been spent to curb homelessness in California. The report found that there were no tracking mechanisms in place to determine whether the $24 billion spent on homelessness programs in the last five years have had any effect on homelessness in the state.
Newsome also celebrated his administration’s move to raise the minimum wage to $20 for fast food workers. In the aftermath of the minimum wage hike, several fast food joints have gone out of business and 10,000 jobs were lost in the state. Many residents of the state have complained about the price increases that have occurred as the corporations pass the cost on to the consumer.
