Corrupt Pentagon Fails to Account For $62MM Ukraine Aid

(OurNationNews.com) Accusations of corruption are floating around on the heels of news that the Pentagon has been unable to account for $62 million in aid that the U.S. has sent to help Ukraine fight its war with Russia.

The funds particularly relate to the military’s accountability regarding defense articles that have been lost or destroyed in the ongoing Ukraine-Russia war – defense articles that require enhanced end‑use monitoring (EEUM). The monitoring, which is designed to creature accountability for the weapons’ use, is required for certain weapons or materials to ensure that they are not misused or divested or diverted illicitly.

According to a report from the Office of Inspector General (OIG), an agency that operates under the U.S. Department of Defense, the reporting bodies from the U.S. military and the Ukrainian military have failed to submit accurate reporting and tracking data on certain pieces of artillery that the U.S. sent to Ukraine to help fend off the Russian invasion.

“The average time from initial defense article loss to final loss report was approximately 10 times longer” than the required time period for reporting such losses, the report said. The report further indicated that the reporting period for the artillery in question took 301 days, as opposed to the standard and required 30 days.

Furthermore, the report indicated that the reports submitted did not factor in the possibility that certain armaments were captured by Russian forces and potentially used against Ukraine.

According to the OIG, it is still conducting an investigation into “allegations of criminal conduct regarding U.S. Security assistance to Ukraine.”

This is not the first time that U.S. military has failed to properly account for the billions of dollars’ worth of aid that the country has sent to Ukraine. Just earlier in the year, an investigation into the Pentagon found that the agency failed to properly track over $1 billion in weapons aid sent to Ukraine, significantly more than half of the $1.6 billion worth of weapons aid that was subject to EEUM.
