College Football Player Dead At 22

(OurNationNews.com) A cornerback for Utah State and former high school football star has died after a freak cliff diving accident that occurred at a reservoir.

According to reports, Andre Seldon Jr., jumped from the surrounding cliffs into the water at the Porcupine Reservoir, located in Utah, Cache County, but never resurfaced. A search was conducted the same day and his body was found by a dive team of the Utah Department of Public Safety several hours later. He was only 22-years-old.

According to the Cache County Sheriff’s Office, the death has been ruled an accident as the circumstances surrounding the incident have been corroborated by multiple witnesses.

Seldon joined the football program at Utah State after playing for New Mexico state. He played for two seasons there under Nate Dreiling, who is currently Utah State’s interim coach. However, Seldon began his college football career at the University of Michigan.

In a statement addressing the incident, Dreiling said and the rest of the team and staff of the Utah State football program are “heartbroken” over Seldon’s passing. The Utah State interim coach recounted Seldon as an “incredible person and teammate,” even when the two were working together at New Mexico State.

“Our condolences and prayers go out to Andre’s family,” Dreiling wrote.

During his career with New Mexico State Seldon played in 28 games, recording two interceptions and a total of 96 tackles. Last year, he was instrumental in leading the Aggies on a 10-win streak, giving them one their most successful college football seasons in recent history.

Seldon was making waves in football as early as high school, leading the Belleville Tigers in Michigan to championships in the conference, district, and region divisions, along with an appearance in the state semifinals of the MHSAA Division 1. ESPN marked Seldon as Michigan’s fourth-best prospect in the class of 2020.
