(OurNationNews.com) Military contractors from the United States could start seeing action in the war in Ukraine after following news that the Biden administration is reportedly looking into the possibility of lifting its ban on the deployment of military contractors to the war-torn country.
The news was confirmed by four different sources inside the administration, saying that the U.S. is looking at options to help Ukraine gain an advantage in the country’s drawn-out efforts to drive back Russia’s armed forces. Russia invaded Ukraine in the latter half of 2022, and the two countries have since been at armed odds with each other.
However, the sources also say that there will still be much discussion around the proposal, and no decisions have been made. The consideration also comes on the heels of President Joe Biden’s staunch refusal to send U.S. troops into Ukraine to help fend off Russia’s military might.
The proposal could be green-lit as early as this year, however. If the president does approve it, the Pentagon will be allowed to provide contracts to American military contractor firms to deploy armed forces into Ukraine. This would mark the first time American military contractors will be directly involved in the fighting in Ukraine. The deployment of contractors into the war zone will also help Ukraine speed up the repairs and maintenance of some of the weapon’s systems from its Western allies that the country has been using.
The U.S. has barred Americans from directly participating in Ukraine’s defense of its territory from Russian invaders, citing concerns that Moscow could claim that America is directly participating in armed combat there. The U.S. has aided Ukraine in the repair and maintenance of equipment, but only after damaged armaments are sent to countries like Romania, Poland, or other NATO-member country. The Ukrainian also routinely consult with their U.S. counterparts on matters such as logistics, but only through video conferencing or a secure phone connection.
