(OurNationNews.com) Dario G, the renowned British music producer and DJ, has passed away after a year-long battle with stage four cancer. He was only 53.
The death of the artist, whose real name was Paul Spencer, was announced by his family on Instagram.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Paul Spencer earlier today,” the family, who signed themselves as “K, A & H”, said. They said that Spencer maintained a positive outlook until the end.
Spencer was diagnosed with stage four rectal cancer last year, and much of his posts on social media documented his journey fighting off the disease. In one of his final posts before his death, Spencer was celebrating the conclusion of a treatment plan that saw him bombarded with strong antibiotics to stave off multiple infections. He also thanked everyone for their messages of support.
Spencer also frequently related how music was an integral source of strength that helped him get through his journey. In April, in a post on Twitter / X, the dance producer shared a photo of himself playing keyboards while on the wheelchair. He shared how he enjoyed playing despite the experience causing him physical pain.
“1st piano recital in a chair. Shout out wheelchair users,” he said.
Originally, Dario G was the name of a group, who, aside from Spencer, consisted of Stephen Spencer and Scott Rosser, also fellow DJs. The group catapulted to the top 2 in the U.K.’s singles charts in 1997 with their debut single “Sunchyme”, prevented only from reaching the top of the charts by the immense popularity of Elton John’s iconic “Candle in the Wind”, which he dedicated to Diana, Princess of Wales.
The group also was behind the track “Carnaval de Paris,” which they made for the World Cup that was held in France in 1998. The song was top 5 in the U.K. chart that same year.
